Homosexuality—A Normal & Natural Lifestyle?
|
A Perspective for Teachers and Counselors
Allan Tibby – July 2002
1) Current State of affairs
a)Lack of clarity on the subject even amongst professionals and the religious.
b)Opinions held are more likely to be the result of political agendas/propaganda
i) U.N, D.E.C.S, A.P.A.
c)Homosexuality – Identity or behavior?
i) Desires do not constitute an identity.
“The greatest single victory of the gay movement over the decade has been to shift the debate from behavior to identity, thus forcing opponents into a position where they can be seen as attacking the civil rights of homosexual citizens…” (Dennis Altman, homosexual activist author of “The Homosexualization of America.”)
|
d)Brief history of homosexual activism
i)1950 Communist agitator Harry Hayes abandons wife and 2 children to
become a homosexual activist to fight for the repeal of sodomy laws in USA.
ii) Homosexuals as an “oppressed minority” theme adopted to ride on the civil rights movement of the 1960s.
iii)1969 Stonewall gay bar riot against police marks beginning of “Gay Pride”.
iv)Two enemies of gay liberation were identified by the activists as;
1)The American Psychiatric Association which listed homosexuality as a Mental disorder, and.
2)Organized religion, which held homosexual acts to be sinful.
v) At a Convocation of fellows of the APA, homosexual activists stormed the meeting and one of their leaders grabbed the microphone and declared that:
“Psychiatry is the enemy incarnate. Psychiatry has waged a relentless war of extermination against us. You may take this as a declaration of war against you.”
vi) 1973 Under pressure from gay activists APA drops homosexuality as a disorder.
vii) Homosexual radical agenda pushed. “Being queer (gay/lesbian) is more than setting up house, sleeping with a person of the same gender, and seeking state approval for doing so. Being queer means pushing the parameters of sex, sexuality, and family, and in the process, transforming the very fabric of society ……. We must keep our eye on the goals of providing true alternatives to marriage and of radically reordering societies views of reality.”
- Paula Ettlebrick- a lesbian activist and former diector for the Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund.
2) The homosexual condition
a)Most common early experiences
i) Perceived or real rejection by father
(1)Emotional withdrawal
(2)Anger/hate
(3)Physical absence
(4)Physically abusive of child and/or mother
ii) Overly dominating mother figure.
(1)Not having a daughter
(2)Husband substitution
(3)Pampering and excessive/unrealistic expectations
iii) Sexual abuse/seduction
00.
b)Gender Identity Disorder
i) Feeling different from the rest
ii) The mystery of maleness
(1)Fascination
(2)Fantasy
(3)Experience
(4)“Identity”
3) The truth of the condition
a) Compelling and addictive
b) Promiscuity
i) Looking for the love of a “man”
c)High rates of physical and mental illness
d)Seeking acceptance through conversion and aggressive political agenda.
4) Can homosexuals change their sexual orientation?
a) Reparative therapy
b)Spiritual “therapy”
5) A much larger issue
a) My identity (Who am I )
i) The material perspective
ii) The spiritual perspective
b) The “sexual being” agenda
c)A critical part of the healing process for many, is the understanding that “I am not my desires. I am not gay or homosexual. Rather I am a person struggling with homosexual desires or tendencies.” The reality is that I am spiritual being, a temporary resident of this body and a visitor passing through this world. These desires are not part of my innermost and eternal spiritual nature. The healing of homosexual desires is then not a question of trying to change who I am, but actually discovering who I really am.
