The Billing Ovulation Method
|
or the Mucus Method
- An Extremely Effective Way of Planning a Family - The following is a brief description of a natural method of family planning which helps a woman to become pregnant, or not to become pregnant, and which is harmless and very reliable.
|
Explanation
1. Every woman who is able to bear children notices that at some time between her menstruations she has white or colorless vaginal discharge called mucus.
2. This mucus discharge is not an abnormality. It is an indication of good health and tells the woman that it is now the time when an act of intercourse may cause pregnancy.
3. When the mucus begins, it is opaque and sticky. Next, it becomes stretchy and slippery, and may look like the raw white of an egg. Then, it becomes sticky again, and then stops altogether.
4. The most fertile days are those when the mucus is stretchy and slippery, and for a few days afterwards.
5. For some women, sometimes a little bleeding occurs between one menstruation and the next.
Rules If you want to have a child
1. Watch for the days of stretchy, slippery mucus. For women with irregular cycles, these may not occur in every cycle.
2. The best chance of having a child is likely to occur if intercourse takes place on the days when the woman is most aware of the slippery feeling produced by the mucus.
3. The husbandquote s fertility may be enhanced at the same time by a rest from intercourse a few days beforehand.
If you do not wish to have a child
1. Avoid intercourse during menstruation.
2. Avoid intercourse on days when the mucus is present and for at least 3 days after.
3. Avoid intercourse on days of slight bleeding and for at least 3 days after, should bleeding occur between one menstruation and the next.
4.During the dry days right after menstruation, use alternate nights for intercourse in order to avoid confusing the wetness from the husbands seminal fluid and the wetness of the wife's mucus.
5. When unsure if mucus is fertile or infertile, avoid intercourse that day and for 3 days after.
Once learned, the Ovulation Method can be applied successfully to all variations throughout a woman's life: regular cycles, irregular cycles, anovulatory cycles (no ovulation), after childbirth, while breastfeeding, after contraceptive medication, approaching menopause, low fertility.
Benefits or advantages of the Billing Ovulation Method1. It preserves normal intercourse.
2. It is aesthetically acceptable to all people and to all cultures.
3. No cost, no gadgets, no drugs - no inherent danger to health.
4. Responsibility for family planning is shared equally by both husband and wife. In every other method, the burden is placed on one partner, usually the wife. Natural family planning embodies the ideal of the equality of the sexes.
5. Marriage is strengthened by the necessary self-control. Other contraceptives eliminate the need for sexual discipline - this makes marriages vulnerable in times of stress. Fertility awareness enhances communications and dialogue between husband and wife. Husbands become more attentive to the entire personality of their wives.
B.O.M. is scientifically proven to be effective. The proponents of this method are both Doctors of Medicine: Dr. John Billings and his wife, Dr. Evelyn Billings, both from Australia. If properly practiced, this method is 98-99% effective when used to avoid pregnancy. It is NOT the same as the Rhythm Method - which is not recommended because women differ in their cycles, whereas B.O.M. is an individual method based on the woman's own self-observation of her cervical mucus pattern.
Impotant Note: Charting or writing down the day's observation every night is very important! One should not rely on memory. The learner is strongly advised to seek the assistance of a trained BOM teacher. Reading the rules is not enough.
