THE ABORTIONIST
"Society of Centurions" What has happened to me?
Of all the puzzling phenomena we have encountered, the most difficult to understand is why medical personnel, who are guided by science and ethics in trying to heal and promote health, end up terminating the lives of unborn children. We studied the problem by talking to individuals who provided or facilitated abortions or who had quit the practice, by collecting responses to a questionnaire and by conducting seminars designed to understand and help them with a difficult transition. It became increasingly apparent that most of the people involved could not explain what happened to themselves. Although they had same tentative explanations, they seemed to be very puzzled. "What has happened to me? Surely there is some way of comprehending this descent into hell?"

It is exceedingly hard to comprehend why a physician, selected because of humanitarian qualities and trained to enhance life and promote health ends up killing innocent children, deeply damaging their mothers, wounding their fathers, drastically disturbing the surviving siblings and,., in the process, dehumanizing themselves. It is incomprehensible how a doctor could, in the same day, have the ultimate thrill of any physician - delivering a newborn baby and placing it at the side of his joyous mother - and then shortly, go to another room to destroy an unsuspecting, "unwanted" infant in the womb of her mother and depositing bits of her carcass in a garbage can.
Through the responses of many ex-abortionists, we have come up with a model to explain this phenomenon. There is a discernible pathway into the abortion-providing trap. It is not an accident that individuals trained to treat become abortionists trained to kill. There is also a pathway out, but it is a difficult one. Not many find the path out and not many complete the transition. The transition out is a slow and painful miracle, but the net result is a radically different individual who holds his/her head up, claims freedorn and experiences joy. If people do not deal with the unresolved conflicts that preceded and occurred during the time they were doing abortions, there is a susceptibility to reenact their problems and go back to doing abortions.
Before their first abortion, doctors have moments of hesitation, even some recriminations. There is a lingering hope that somebody will intervene and stop them. They hope they are helping women, although they will probably never hear a post-abortion woman say "Thank you, doctor."
After the first shock to their sensibilities, progressive dehumanization sets in. With the support of their abortionist colleagues, they develop a rationale. Much of society and many women's groups cheer them on. Since they do not follow up their patients, they have little knowledge of what is really going on in the hearts and minds of the women they abort. The shock of tearful women before and after the abortion is left to others, or for the woman to shelve into her subconscious, putting her into a state of denial for months or years.
Not only are abortion providers becoming increasingly dehumanized, but there is an increasing split between their behaviors and beliefs. It is not long before they can kiss their wife/husband good-bye, give their children a hug, walk out the door like any other doctor, then kill a number of babies. All this become unthinkingly accepted by themselves, their family and friends until some event shocks them into taking a closer look at the reality. Little do they realize they have been subtly recruited for the dirtiest, most dehumanizing job in the world. They start with high motives, but are seduced by the promise of power and money.
After the first glimpse of reality, the true path calls a person to have a longer, more sobering look. The choice is always between life and death truth or deceit. The truth will set us free, not some of the truth some of the time, but all the truth all the time; particularly about the practice of abortions. The true path leads to light and joy and freedom. If we seek the truth, we will be led to the only source of truth. We will find salvation in God. If we accept deceit and lies, it can only result in a downward spiral toward death.
There is a group of ex-abortionists who have set up the Society of Centurions. This is a fellowship dedicated to help people through the difficult transition of leaving the practice, of doing or facilitating abortions and to further an understanding of the roots of the problem. "Centurion" refers to the soldier who supervised the crucifixion of Jesus, pierced His side with a lance, but repented. If you are or know of someone who left or is interested in leaving the practice of providing or facilitating abortions, please contact us.
