Alex and Brett Harris of The Rebelution

Do Hard Things Philippines is bringing The Rebelution’s Do Hard Things Tour to the Philippines by June 19, 2010 at the Ultra in Pasig City. Each conference is a challenging one-day event for teens by teens who believe that our generation is ready for a change.

”Teens are hungry for real challenges, far more than they are given credit for,” say twins Alex and Brett Harris, founders of The Rebelution Movement and authors of the bestseller Do Hard Things—A Teenage Rebellion Against Low Expectations released locally last June 2009. The twins will be the featured speakers of the conferences here in the country.

“We believe that our generation is ready to rethink what teens are capable of doing and becoming. And we’ve noticed that once wrong ideas are debunked and cleared away, our generation is quick to choose a better way, even if it’s also more difficult.” The Do Hard Things Tour invites you to explore some radical questions:

• Is it possible that even though teens today have more freedom than any other generation in history, we’re actually missing out on some of the best years of our lives?

• Is it possible that what our culture says about the purpose and potential of the teen years is a lie, and that we are its victims? • Is it possible that our teen years give us a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for huge accomplishments — as individuals and as a generation?

• And finally, what would our lives look like if we set out on a different path entirely — a path that required more effort but promised a lot more reward?

Come to Quiapo Church on March 24 and light a candle for the unborn

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Promoting a culture of life, love and peace, PRO-LIFE PHILIPPINES FOUNDATION, INC. invites everyone to attend the annual commemoration of the “Day of the Unborn.”

In its firm resolve to help eradicate abortion from the face of the earth, Pro-Life designed this activity in grief for the souls of the aborted babies who never saw the splendor of God’s creation, who never felt the warmth of their mother’s embrace and whose voice were never even heard. The event would hopefully serve as an awakening to those who view abortion as a way out of pregnancy instead of a blessing of a new life. The increasing rate of abortion today has become a path towards moral decadence and devastating psycho-spiritual effects on the lives of the aborted women, the men involved, and the abortion providers.

With these thoughts, we are enjoining you to proclaim your pro-life stand. Let us all offer prayers in memory of the innocent aborted babies who neither had the voice or the choice to be born. Participate in Light a Candle for Life Ceremony on March 24 (eve of the Day of the Unborn) in front of the Monument for the Unborn in Plaza Miranda. The activity will start after the 6:00 pm Holy Mass at the Basilica of the Black Nazarene, Quiapo Church.

Archbishop Paciano Aniceto, Chair of the Episcopal commission on Family and Life, has issued a letter to dioceses all over the country to encourage their parishes to celebrate the Day of the Unborn on March 25 .

Pro-Life seminar deals with teen sexuality

Monday, February 1st, 2010

IMG1361AQUEZON CITY, Jan. 23, 2010—MORE than a hundred participants attended Pro-Life Philippines Foundation’s Pro-Life Seminar titled “Understanding Sexually Active Teenagers” last Saturday at the Bahay-Ugnayan Conference Hall inside the Good Shepherd Convent in Quezon City.

Facilitated by the Foundation’s Vice-President and seasoned resource speaker Mr. Edgardo Sorreta, the seminar catered to a cluster of teachers, counselors, school personnel, parents, even students who were all eager to learn about the apparent attitudes and behaviors of teenagers towards sex and their own sexuality.

“Educating teens on sex and sexuality should be highly prioritized. This is one of the key factors in guiding them towards upright sexual maturity,” Sorreta said.

Sorreta, a local coordinator of Family and Life and a member of Couples for Christ, mentioned of how the values of the younger generation have been compromised due to the proliferation of misguided materials about sex in print, broadcast, and the Internet.

“The youth and their families as well are very much exposed to the harmful contents of what the media has been promoting especially on the topic of sex. No wonder there are people who resort to abortion and other perverted practices contrary to the teachings of the Church” Sorreta said.

Moreover during his talk, Sorreta also noted of the need to guide both teenagers and their parents when it comes to talking about sex.

“Values are not taught. They are caught. That is why it’s equally important for parents to become good role models to their children especially when it comes to handling sensitive issues such as sex,” Sorreta told the audience.

To be more credible, Sorreta also shared some personal anecdotes telling some of his experiences raising his own daughter. Further, Sorreta provided more information on ways on how to cope with puberty.

“Before you decide to do something sexual, think about it a hundred times over and then weigh the consequences. You’ll realize these (pre-marital sex, etc.) are things you could do without while you grow up.,” said Sorreta. “Remember, passion is not affection. There are a hundred ways of showing your love to a significant other better than sex outside of marriage.”

An open forum came after the talk where the audience actively participated in sharing to others their personal experiences in growing up as a teen and raising a teenager.

This is the first of the series of Pro-Life Seminars the Foundation will be conducting this year. Following this talk will be a seminar on pornography, which will be held by March. Each seminar is aimed at educating the general public on the various aspects and issues that the pro-life advocacy encompasses. (Andrew Isiah P. Bonifacio)

A PROLIFE CHRISTMAS MESSAGE

Monday, December 14th, 2009

pro-life christmas cardGreetings of Life!

This Season of Joy ushers in with thoughts of your generous heart. Indeed, as we celebrate the holidays we cannot help but look back on the year that was and trace all the benevolent things you have contributed for the sake of preserving and promoting a culture of life.

As we reminisce, much of the year has been spent on efforts to complete the organization’s transition to becoming a more dynamic force amid the fight against the anti-life. From its rehashed roster of board of trustees elected in February to its newly furnished office in Sampaloc, Manila last May, Pro-Life continues to deal with structural and organizational changes one step at a time.

Besides the sustained pregnancy crisis intervention and counseling services, research and lobby activities, Pro-Life also engaged itself this year in various endeavors all in the name of the pro-life advocacy. We organized the National Conference on Responsible Parenthood-Natural Family Planning last February. We also united with other groups in fostering wholesome family values during the International Day of Families last May and the National Family Week last September; corroborating in giving the pulse in social and political dilemmas concerning life via the Pro-Life Caucus last October; and encouraging pro-life awareness and activism during the Pro-Life Youth Congress and the Subic Marian Peace Regatta last October.

The foundation also sought collaborations with the Catholic Church in strengthening the pro-life campaign. Most notable of these efforts include the installation of a local chapter of the help center in Meycauayan last May and the Dinner for Life with the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines last July.

Through all of these pursuits, we are highly grateful for your unyielding support of our cause. For next year, more editions of these activities most especially during the Pro-Life Month in February are about to unfold. In light of this, we are looking forward to your continued membership and subscription to Pro-Life. We work with much inspiration knowing you are one with us through your generous support!

Have a meaningful Christmas and a year filled with hope!
