CBCP pleads to Catholics for more prayers to halt RH bill passage

MANILA, May 22, 2009—CBCP Episcopal Commission on Family and Life Chairman and San Fernando (Pampanga) Archbishop Paciano B. Aniceto asked for the Catholic faithful to intensify their prayers to block the controversial Reproductive Health Bill now pending in the Lower House.

In his homily at a concelebrated Mass at the gathering of Pro-Life advocates held Wednesday afternoon at the Makati Sports Club, the prelate said Catholics need to fervently pray for divine intervention to enlighten the minds of those who support the controversial measures.

“While our friends at the House are trying their best with their power of argumentation, proper reasoning and moral arguments, just like Moses, we hold our hands in supplication to the Lord, we have gathered different groups composed of lay leaders, bishops and legislators to oppose the controversial bill,” Aniceto said.

He added the pro-life lawmakers are trying their best to win over the latest 22 party-list lawmakers who recently assumed office.

“Twenty-two can be a deciding factor during the final voting,” he said. Lawmakers Leonardo Montemayor of ABA-AKO party list and Congressmen J. Roilo Golez, Eduardo Zialcita, Raul Del Mar also attended the event.

Aniceto also asked for prayers for the new lawmakers for them to really understand the real issues against the controversial reproductive health bill.

Among the Church-based groups represented during the meeting were Kanlungan ng Buhay Foundation, Pro-Life Philippines, Couples for Christ-Foundation for Family and Life and Alliance for the Family.
