Board of Trustees undergo Pro-Life Refresher

gedc0723In its pursuit to strengthen the pro-life values inculcated in its main supporters, Pro-Life Philippines Foundation Inc. (Pro-Life) conducted its annual Pro-Life Refresher Seminar held at the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Building in Quezon City last April 18.

The said activity aims to further reinforce the pro-life advocacy among its staunch supporters most especially among its Board of Trustees and their corresponding staff members through a set of enlightening, reflective and informative lecture courtesy of credible, pro-life resource speakers.

First on the itinerary was Family and Life Coordinator and Pro-Life Vice President Ed Sorreta and his talk regarding the true meaning of being “pro-life.”

“Being pro-life is more than just being part of the organization. To be pro-life means to be pro-God and to follow and proclaim each valuable lesson revealed in the Gospel which all pertain to preserving and respecting the dignity and sanctity of life,” Sorreta said.

Moreover during his talk, Sorreta also mentioned of how the values of the younger generation have been compromised due to the proliferation of misguided materials about sex in print, broadcast, and Internet media. This, according to Sorreta, adds up to the burden of challenges pro-life advocates need to face to protect and preserve life.

“The youth and their families as well are very much exposed to the harmful contents of what the media has been promoting especially on the topic sex. No wonder there are people who resort to abortion and other perverted practices contrary to the teachings of the Church” Sorreta said.

Meanwhile, BUHAY Party List lobbyist Jose “Agoy” Descaller discussed and updated the attendees of the refresher on the present pro-life and anti-life promulgations under scrutiny in the House of Representatives such as the highly controversial Reproductive Health Bill and the Magna Carta for Women.

“These bills reflect what kind of political landscape there is in the Congress and sad to say, there are solons that vehemently push for the approval of these anti-life policies,” Descaller said.

Descaller also showed the current number of forces behind both sides of the pro-life and pro-choice groups. Noted in his presentation was the increasing number of pro-choice supporters and the seemingly dwindling numbers of pro-life advocates.

“The forces of the other side (pro-choice) are getting huge supports from various sectors and surprisingly, they have even subtly sought the help of forces such as Catholic-related organizations who should have been on our side,” Descaller added.
Both speakers agree that there is a need for pro-life advocates to educate and network.

“We need to strengthen our pro-life campaign via education and seminars, talks, and conventions such as these should be our starting point for bigger campaigns to impart the proper knowledge and information among people so that they would make the right choices,” Sorreta said.

“There is a need for us to utilize our large network of supporters such as and most especially the Catholic Church so that we boost the morale and awareness level on the pro-life advocacy,” Descaller said.
