PRO-LIFE ATTORNEY LAID TO REST AT 65

s320x2401Atty. Maria Amelia Acevedo Meñez-Zafra succumbed to breast cancer in her sickbed at St. Luke’s Medical Center 1:59 p.m. Saturday, February 28, 2009. She was 65.

The pro-life lawyer lost her staunch battle with the disease after more than ten years.

Zafra was readmitted to the hospital for medical treatment after her oncologist diagnosed her cancer at stage 4. Despite poor prognosis, Zafra underwent chemotherapy for a couple of weeks before her demise.

Her husband, Peewee, was with her during her last few moments in the hospital before she passed away. Apart from her husband, left in grief are her children Adrian and Arman; her daughters-in-law Trina and Josievitz; her brothers Fr. Alex, Albert, and Aloy; her nephew and niece, Mark and Mitch; and her grandchildren Jason, Julian, and Zoe.

Zafra’s remains will be laid to rest in her hometown in Kalibo, Aklan. Prior to this, her family and closest friends and colleagues from LAIKO and Pro-Life Philippines held her interment at the Religious of the Good Shepherd Chapel inside the Good Shepherd Convent, Quezon City.

Zafra, born October 16, 1943 in Kalibo, Aklan, was an active promoter of the pro-life advocacy. She was also a dedicated member of the LAIKOS, the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of the Philippines’ Women’s Desk, and the Marriage Encounter.
