Bishop hits Durex condom tester promo

MANILA, A Catholic bishop has criticized as “one of the worst jobs” Durex’s first recruitment drive in the country for condom testers.

Novaliches retired Bishop Teodoro Bacani said it’s nothing but a “gimmick” to further promote the use of contraceptives in the country in the guise of giving out cash prizes.

“The church has always been against the use of condoms for contraceptive purposes. That’s why we are also against that kind of gimmick,” he said.

“I don’t think we need to encourage in any way such gimmicks and initiatives for commercial purposes,” said Bacani.

The bishop feared that the promo might lure people to join especially those in need of jobs and money.

“If it’s wrong, no matter how many do it, it’s still wrong. If it’s right, no matter if nobody does it, it is still right,” Bacani said.

The condom maker wants a panel of at least 500 people who are married or for couples to report their experiences of using condoms and lubricants.

Married couples have been asked to apply on its local website.

Panelists will be expected to report online on how the condoms and lubricants were used and whether their sex lives have improved.

The first to accomplish the application form and give the best answer to the question “What makes the best Durex Condom Tester?” will win P50,000 cash, plus free products from Durex.
