Twenty-five years ago, in 1983, the Pro-Life Movement of the Philippines, which was begun nine years earlier, was officially registered as a Foundation. To commemorate this landmark event in its history, Pro-Life held a simple program last September 20 to coincide with its major fundraising activity for this year, the presentation of Repertory’s stage production “Mulan, Jr.”, a story that emphasizes, fittingly, the importance of family, love, integrity, and courage.
On that occasion, Pro-Life family, friends, long-time supporters, and others who simply wanted to watch a good show got together at the Onstage Theatre in Greenbelt I, Makati to lend support to the event and enjoy an afternoon with their kids watching the show while linking up with fellow advocates in an atmosphere of homecoming and reminiscing.
In her inspirational message, Sr. Pilar, founder and Chairperson of Pro-Life, briefly reminisced on Pro-Life’s beginnings, enumerated its various projects and activities, and cited a couple of significant achievements like its role in the declaration of February as Pro-Life Month and March 25 as the National Day of the Unborn. Noting the presence of some of those who were with her since the very start, she thanked all those who have supported Pro-Life all through the years, revealing that it was they who have kept her inspired and driven all these 25 years. Reminding the audience of “Baby Joshua” as a symbol of all the babies that they have saved, she ended with the rallying cry “Yes to Life!” thumbs up and one big shout.
Reinforcing Sr. Pilar’s message, Representative Trisha Bonoan-David, a generous Pro-Life supporter and ardent prolife legislator, talked about the anti-life provisions of the reproductive health bill now pending in Congress and urged everyone to continue the fight against its passage into law.
Highlighting the program was the launching of the Silver Jubilee Commemorative Magazine, “The Best of LIFE,” led by Pro-Life President Benjamin Santillan, who appealed for everyone’s continued support in Pro-Life’s future activities. The magazine puts together the people, the places and the significant events that figured in all 25 years of Pro-Life’s history.
With the presence of many pro-life pillars there, the celebration was a simple but unforgettable event, a fitting testimony to Pro-Life’s bold, but humble, approach towards its advocacy.
