Teach youth how to respect life, says Cardinal Rosales

MANILA, February 3, 2008—In a message on the occasion of celebration of pro-life month in February, Cardinal Rosales said young people should be taught how to respect life in all forms.
“I hope that special attention to the young be given in these efforts. The youth personify life and our hope for the future. In keeping with the theme, the youth are the generations of our future; from them will spring forth more generations,” he said.

Pro-life month was first declared “Respect and Care for Life Month” by former President Corazon Aquino through Proclamation 214 in February 1988.
February is Pro-Life Month and it is ushered in Church’s liturgical calendar with the celebration of Pro-Life-Sunday on February 3, 2008.
The theme for this year’s celebration is Life for Generations to Come.
“I call on all to celebrate this Pro-Life Month in a sincere and creative fashion. Let it truly be a highlight of our belief in Life, our love for Life, our dependence on Life,” Rosales said.
The Family and Life Ministries in Manila Archdiocese and in the parishes took the lead in organizing programs and projects geared towards long-lasting and consistent activities on respect for life in all its forms.
Cardinal also urged clergy and faithful to celebrate a Pro-Life Month this February with purpose and commitment and pray and work so that Pro-Life celebration is not just a month but everyday of lives.
Pro-Life Philippines Central Office is also organizing a series of activities for the celebration of the Pro-Life Month
On February 3 is the launching of Pro-life Month at Immaculate Conception Cathedral, Diocese of Cubao, Lantana St., Cubao, Quezon City from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
February 16 is set apart for planting trees for life at Parks and Wildlife, Quezon City, and name a tree for an unborn baby, child or loved one who has passed away. This is a memorial and healing activity for individuals, organizations and communities. Key note speaker is Lito Atienza, Secretary DENR; Chair, Board of Advisers, Pro-Life Philippines, which is at the forefront of a vigorous and continuing campaign in support of life and natural family planning.
On February 23, Youth Congress with a theme: "Passing the Torch" at St. Paul College,Pasig City.
Youth organizations from parishes, schools and communities to participate in the action planning to help Pro-Life fight the issues of death are invited.
The purpose of the Youth Congress is to educate youth who are surrounded with confusing messages and that no matter how schools want to reach out to them with good moral values; there are still quite a number that involve themselves into premarital sex, abortion, drugs, alcohol and cheating.
The Congress could be a venue for young people, where the young could listen to leaders in different fields and learn from their suggestions. (Santosh Digal)
