Dear Councilor de los Reyes,
It was a delight to read your letter opposing the draft Reproductive Health Code of Olongapo City which you read in open session last August 1, 2007. It is a well-researched, well-thought out discourse that puts the issue in the right perspective.
Congratulations, most especially, for courageously exposing the insidious and self- serving role of certain foreign entities in pushing for legislation that go against the moral, cultural, and social grain of Filipinos. Your insights should serve as a warning to our policy-makers at the local and national levels, and a challenge to all of us who are committed to the upliftment of our country.
Indeed, as you suggested, our policy-makers should focus on serious family and social policies, programs on cultural development, and of fair production and distribution of resources instead of anti-birth policies that will only perpetuate the culture of death in our society.
As you must be aware of, your late father, Sonny de los Reyes, was an active pro-lifer, and we were privileged to have him as a member of our Board of Trustees and Board of Advisers for many years. How truly proud he must be for the stand that you are taking today!
