Abortion Cases in Baguio Alarming

MSGR. Andres Cosalan, Vicar General of the Diocese of Baguio expressed alarm over the increasing number of abortion cases over the past few months
|
In his remarks during the 5th Joint Biennial National Convention of the World Apostolate of Fatima of the Philippines last May 24, Msgr. Cosalan said he is very disturbed by the fact that Baguio City placed second nationwide.
He said the Church will remain firm in its stand against abortion and will not, in any way, change its position.
He said the facts which picture a sad reality for Baguio City and its faithful will be considered “a challenge” for those involved in Family and Life Apostolate.
He added the Church and its leaders will have to double its efforts in espousing everyone’s moral responsibilities but still needs the support of local political leaders to strictly go against abortion.
He called on the participants to be involved in the youth apostolate, especially through its campus ministries.
“We have to guide these young people who are probably far from home for the very first time,” Cosalan said.
Abortion, he said, including the proliferation and the use of contraceptives by the youth will have to be considered threats to society.
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines earlier reiterated its stand against birth control in reaction to the so-called growing clamor for family planning.
“The widespread use of contraceptives – even with government support – and the great number of abortion committed daily do not change the objective moral law on birth control,” CBCP President and Jaro (Iloilo) Archbishop Angel N. Lagdameo said.
He said the Church still sees artificial methods of family planning as “a wrong thing.”
