Pro-Abortion CFFC, Claiming to BE Catholic, Launches Ads Contrary to Catholic Teaching

The Pro-Abortion group, Catholics for Free Choice (CFFC), is launching ads on Washington, DC metro rail cars and stations. The ads claim that among Catholics there is “clearly ample support for policies” to deep abortion legal, and that Catholic women have abortions at the same rate as non-Catholics.

But according to a poll by Zogby International in December 2006, a majority of Catholics want abortion to be illegal. Among Catholics who attend Mass weekly or more 60% believe all abortions should be illegal. This is consistent with other polls that have shown that Catholics in America take a pro-life position on abortion. A Gallup survey in April 2005 found that that a strong majority of Catholics believe the Catholic Church should retain its view of abortion.
The former president of CFFC, Frances Kissling, retired at the beginning of March and has been succeeded by Jon O’Brien.
