PRO-LIFE Summer Youth Camp
|
By Abner M. Manuba
The PRO-Life Philippines 2007 Summer Youth Camp is over and it was a big success! The camp was held at Fuentes Farm, Niogan, Pililla, Rizal last April 28 to May 1, 2007. It was participated in by 33 youth leaders and volunteers from different sectors in the Philippines including students from Unibersidad de Manila, Pamantasang Lungsod ng Maynila and Batangas State University; youth volunteers from different parishes such as Saint John the Baptist Parish, Don Bosco Youth Center, Youth Ministry of Imus and Novaliches and Daughters of Mary Immaculate; and representatives from Smokey Mountain.

The main objective of the camp was to organize a pro-life youth group that will promote the pro-life mission and vision. The group will be composed of three committees: a committee that will give spiritual guide and enlistment, and will be headed by participants from parishes; a committee for concreteness that will concentrate on society-related problems; and will be headed by participants from the community; and a committee for academic guidance that will be headed by participants from the universities.
Important topics were discussed in the camp like the DEATHS BILLS which tackle the issue on divorce, euthanasia, abortion, two-child policy, homosexual union and sex education, MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS, TEEN SEXUALITY, ECOLOGY AND ENVIRONMENT AND TRUE LOVE WAITS. There were also workshops and activities that gave participants the opportunity to share ideas and thoughts.
The participants were cooperative in giving them insights and views concerning our country. Before the camp ended, each group planned an action that will serve as their outline and primary step in spreading our PRO-Life mission and vision to their community.
In my observation, participants enjoyed the camp’s activities as well as the beauty of the farm. Our venue was so majestic that you will just find yourself loving it. Responses from the participants were good, indicating the success of the camp. We just hope that the PRO-Life advocacy which taught was to them will not end there, but will be a starting point from where to their will themselves as an example, a good role model in valuing life from conception and in respecting not only themselves but also the others whom they work with.
