Pro-life Hero: Waiting is a special word by J. Leornas
|
|
The right time. In God’s time. This is the experience of Sis. Nene Tan Gatue, as the prolife staff fondly called her. Two years ago, during my talk in one of the parishes of Pasig, a wealthy but kind-looking lady in her mid-sixties approached and told me that she was sent by Sr. Pilar to share her experience on abortion. I thought she had herself an abortion.
|
But I was wrong. During her sharing, her story was about her son Philip. She related that it took her 19 years after marriage before she got pregnant. And Philip was a blessing to her and to her husband, Andy. One day, Philip, who was then a medical intern at Philippine General Hospital, called her up crying in the middle of the night asking her to pray. Asking what happened, Philip described that at that moment, he was holding a fetus from a patient who took abortifacient pills, when she bled and she was rushed to the PGH. The woman told him that she bought the pills from a herbal vendors in Quiapo. Philip requested her mother to go to Quiapo Church in the morning and to ask the parish priest to do something about it. Sister Nene did. But the priest told her he was helpless about the situation.
On her own, she decided to embark on a new mission to save more babies. She contacted pro-life and since then, she has been helping pro-life produce posters of Jesus holding an aborted babies and Our Lady of Guadalupe estampitas. Not only that, she also give joins prolife seminars to sharie her stories.
But what we really admire in her is that she embarks on this lonely missions all over Luzon to leave estampitas inside churches and chapels and sometimes stalking people who will visit the Church and individually, “lectures” the people about the importance of pro-life mission.
Relating this to me, I was really amazed with the passion and zeal of this lady. She is contagious and inspiring. Despite her age and her wealth and living in an affluent subdivision, she devotedly and totally gives her time to the apostolate.
Lately, God heard her other plea.Recently, her son’s wife gave birth to a bouncing and gleeful baby daughter. At least this time, Sister Nene did not wait for another 19 years. She is enjoying being a doting and fulltime grandmother. But I know, not for long. I was just told that she will join us again to continue her mission in saving countless spiritual grandchildren.
Sis. Nene is waiting for you to call now. She is waiting for you to join her.
We pray to have more people like Sis. Nene join us.
