Twin celebration,Twin success

Again the old walled city of Intramuros rocked last February 21, 2004 at Clam Shell II, As Pro-life Philippines Foundation in cooperation with the Manila City Government, Philippine Tourism Authority, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office and Department of Social Welfare and Development presented the “Festival of Twins and Pro-life Philippines 11th National Convention”. It was a double celebration organized by events specialist Red Letter Days where everybody had twice the dun and excitement. Almost 200 pairs of twins and 12 triplets together with their respective families, delegates of the convention, Pro-life trustees and members, guest speakers, guests from the Manila City Government and other government offices almost reach 1,000 people.

The morning show was hosted by Ms. Chiqui Roa, who also believes in the Pro-life mission and vision statements.

Some of the guest speakers of this spectacular gathering were the Manila City Mayor Lito Atienza, Department of Health Secretary Manuel Dayrit, Brother Bo Sanchez who gave an inspirational talk, Dr. Rebecca Singson, an obstetrician and a mother of twins, who stressed on the individuality of the twins and triplets.

Sister Pilar Verzosa, RGS, National Coordinator of Pro-life Philippines Foundation together with Ms. Natalie Palanca, who suggested the idea of “Festival of Twins” introduced the Parade of Twins.

“Sometimes, there are those who find it hard to take care of twins. But having them is a blessing and we want to spread the message about how special they are and how they should be taken cared of,” said Sister Pilar.

They came in two’s and three’s from all over the country, some from far north and others down south. With Ronald McDonald leading the parade, all the twins and triplets tagged along. The youngest, 6-month-old Michaela Beatriz and Raphael Anton Embong joined, riding in a twin blue stroller pushed by their ever so proud parents. At the very end of the longest twin line were the oldest twins, 69-year old Maria Salarria and Zenaida Antonio of Manila. All the twins and triplets who joined the parade were presented on stage. As they stood on the stage, the audience cheered them on in full excitement and awe. They were seeing double and triple all at the same time.

While the judges were having a difficult time in coming up with the decision for the special awards, the following performed on stage: Lustre Triplets, Twins Tenor Rolando and Orlando Sarreal together with their sister Dra. Clarita Sarreal-Basaca, Land Bank Choir and St. Paul Paranaque Dance Troupe.
The highlight of the event was the awarding of special awards that included the said youngest and oldest twins, the most identical were the cute and chubby 3-year-old borthers Lance and Justin Rador, most colorful attire went to 50-year old sisters Ma. Mila Angel and Ma. Luz Bolong. The Bolongs came all the way from La Union. Stunning in identical balintawak costumes (Filipino dress with butterfly sleeves in a plaid pattern). The special awards also included the awardee for highest achievement twin which went to the twin doctors Nuguid, who are both pediatricians.

Aside from the Parade of Twins and talks, included in the performances by Jay Roy and friends, who rapped a few original Pro-life-related compositions, the Trumpets who presented their play “Pamilya Maleta”, a medley of beautiful Classical, Church and Patriotic music from Blind Tenor and Pianist Carlos Alberto Ibay.
The event was capped with a Mass officiated by Bishop Ireneo Amantillo, D.D. and six Diocesan Family and Life Directors. The singing was led by the Loreto Minstrels.
