Lipa Youth rallies against reproductive health bill

LIPA CITY, In a show of youthful enthusiasm and strength the young people of Lipa archdiocese rallied together and voiced their opposition against anti-life bill being proposed in Congress.

In a Marian Rally for life held last June 28 at the San Francis de Sales College Seminary Gymnasium, Marawoy, Lipa City, the Archdiocesan youth opposed the reproductive health bill being proposed at Congress.
The bill called “An Act Providing for a National Policy on Reproductive Health, Responsible Parenthood and Population Development, and for Other Purposes” is a consolidation of previous reproductive health bills, namely, HB 17 (Responsible Parenthood and Population Development Act of 2007), HB 812 (The Reproductive Health Care Act) and HB 2753 (The Women’s Right to Know Act).
Father Dakila Ramos, Director of the Archdiocesan Youth Commission (AYC) said more than 1,500 youth, catechists and religious participated the rally.
Resource speakers animated participants with series of lectures.
Dr. Rene Josef Bullecer, Executive Director of Human Life-Philippines discussed the “Threats and Challenges to Today’s Youth,
Fr. Melvin Castro, Executive Secretary of the Episcopal Commission on Family and Life of Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), tackled the topic “Mary, Mother of Life.”
Father Eyong Ramos shared about “Mary, Model of Youth in Prayer” and challenged the youth with a topic “Protect and Defend your Life, Remain Chaste.
Aside from listening to the lectures, the youth also actively participated in animations and intermission numbers.
During the event, AYC Director Ramos read a copy of the letter by Congressman Mark Llandro L. Mendoza addressed to Atty. Marilyn B. Yap, Secretary General of House of Representatives stating his withdrawal as a co-sponsor of Reproductive Health Bill.
The letter stated that upon further intensive and extensive consultation with his constituents in his district, Congressman Mendoza, a Representative of 4th District of Batangas and one of the co-authors of the comprehensive anti-life bill No. 2753, “An Act to protect the right of the people to information about reproductive health care services” has withdrawn his co-sponsorship. His assent to the other reproductive health bills has likewise been withdrawn as mentioned in his letter.
The Archdiocesan Youth Marian Rally for Life had the theme “Halina, Kabataan, Samahang Ipagbunyi si Maria bilang Inang Tagapagbantay at Tagapagtanggol ng Buhay.”
It ended with a concelebrated mass officiated by Archbishop Ramon Arguelles who reiterated in his homily to work together to save the future, humanity, fellowmen and not to allow others to destroy one’s life.
