Dear Editor,
Rina Jimenez-David, after using the American pro-abortion mantra “Reproductive Rights” for years, has finally come out explicitly in favor of abortion by approvingly quoting Mexican sociologist Roberto Blancarte on March 19, “The ability of women . . .to end an undesired pregnancy goes hand in hand with the existence of a lay state that guarantees that freedom of conscience . . .”

Charles Moore in a reflection in the London Daily Telegraph on March 22 on the 40th anniversary of Pope Paul VI’s Humanae Vitae points out how Paul’s predictions were correct: “Judging by the divorce and illegitimacy rates, it would be hard to argue, as people used to, that family planning has saved marriage. The number of teenage pregnancies shows that the contraceptive culture has not protected young girls very successfully.
“States have indeed forced people into birth control. China's one-child policy has so altered the shape of the family and the psychology of each child that its rising generation may well threaten the peace of the world.
“As for science, it is now clear that there are no agreed limits about when an embryo may be created, altered or destroyed. People are becoming products.”
Rina Jimenez-David has sneered in the past at family as understood in every culture since the dawn of time until now, one involving man and woman in a committed and publicly recognized relationship, whether in monogamous, polygamous or polyandrous forms, taking responsibility for their children.
Your pro-abortion columnist wondered out loud some years ago whether it was proper for a teenage boy to drape his arm around an older female relative. What a strange order of values.
Yours sincerely,
Seán Coyle
