Pope Francis blasts abortion, population control in new encyclical

By Elise Harris Vatican City, Jun 18, 2015 / 04:05 am (CNA/EWTN News).- In his new encyclical on the environment, Pope Francis slams attacks against human life such as abortion, embryonic experimentation and population control – saying that respect for creation and human dignity go hand in hand. The Pope explained that “a sense of deep communion with the rest of nature cannot be real if our hearts lack tenderness, compassion and concern for our fellow human beings.” “At times we see an obsession with denying any pre-eminence to the human person; more zeal is shown in protecting other species than…

Pope Francis: ‘Gender Theory Is An Error of the Human Mind That Leads to So Much Confusion’

By Michael W. Chapman | June 4, 2015 | 1:44 PM EDT While Bruce Jenner’s pretend transformation into a woman is dominating the news this week and being applauded by liberals, it merits noting that Pope Francis has condemned the idea of “gender theory” on several occasions, calling it “an error of the human mind” and a notion that “does not recognize the order of creation.” In describing modern-day “Herods” that “plot designs of death, that disfigure the face of man and woman,” Pope Francis cited nuclear weapons, “genetic manipulation” and…

Population control won’t solve climate change, Caritas official says

May 21, 2015

VATICAN CITY, May 16, 2015–Controlling populations is not the answer in fighting poverty and protecting the environment, says a leading official for the Catholic aid federation, Caritas Internationalis. “We do not see that population control, the way it is being thought by many, is the right way to go forward,” Caritas secretary general Michel Roy said in an interview with CNA. The question of sustaining the planet is not approached “by suppressing people,” he said. Roy has been in Rome for Caritas International’s 20th general assembly which has been running from May 12-17 on the theme: “One human family, care…

BREAKING: House votes to ban abortions in the U.S. after five months

May 15, 2015

5:30 PM, MAY 13, 2015  BECKY YEH On the anniversary of the conviction of Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell, the U.S. House voted in favor of banning abortions across the country after five months. The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act passed the House on a 242 to 184 vote, and now heads to the Senate. Lawmakers wrangled with the measure, also known as H.R. 36, in January, which sabotaged a highly anticipated vote on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade; however, the measure was reintroduced for another vote on the anniversary of Gosnell’s conviction. The law would effectively ban abortions in the U.S. after 20 weeks— when…
