  • Brazil elects pro-life president, despite pressure to legalize abortion

On Sunday, Jair Bolsonaro won the presidential election in Brazil. His victory, with 55% of the vote, is significant because he is conservative and, more importantly, pro-life. For the past four presidential elections, Brazil has chosen left-leaning candidates. Bolsonaro represents a marked contrast, and his election has been described as the most dramatic political change since democracy was restored to Brazil more than three decades ago. Under current law, Brazil is a strongly pro-life country. All abortions are banned except in cases of rape, when the mother’s health is at risk, or when a baby’s brain is severely deformed. International…

  • Nurse Admits “the Purpose for” Prenatal Screening is to Abort Babies With Down Syndrome

In news that shows how prevalent discriminatory attitudes towards babies with Down’s syndrome still are within the medical profession, a mother has spoken out about her horror at being told the point of prenatal screening was to abort babies with the condition. “It was horrible” Leah, a mother of two who did not give the BBC her full name, recently went for a dating scan and asked for the screening so she could be prepared if her baby had the condition, which it did not. She has a sister with Down’s syndrome, and told the midwife that she would not…

  • Reach out to unmarried couples, support newlyweds, pope urges

ROME— The Catholic Church must reach out to couples living together without being married, Pope Francis told those involved in family ministry in the Diocese of Rome. The church’s outreach should extend “also to those young people who choose to live together without marrying. We must witness to them the beauty of matrimony,” the pope said Sept. 27 during an evening meeting at the Basilica of St. John Lateran, the cathedral of the Rome Diocese. Some 850 priests, permanent deacons and married couples involved in diocesan and parish projects to prepare couples for marriage and minister to families met with…

  • Trump Admin Cancels FDA Contract to Purchase Body Parts of Aborted Babies for Tax-Funded Research

The Trump administration has heard the concerns of pro-life organizations and pro-life Americans upset by the news that the FDA had purchased the body parts of aborted babies for research. As LfieNews reported in August, shocking revelations indicated the Food and Drug Administration signed a new contract to acquire body parts from aborted babies to be transplanted into so-called humanized mice. The grisly experiments allow mice to have a functioning human immune system for research purposes. Now, the Trump administration has canceled the contract with Advanced Bioscience Resources, a company that buys and sells aborted baby parts from Planned Parenthood…

  • After 25 Years of Leading Priests for Life My Goal is the Same: End Abortion

Twenty-five years ago, I first sat down in a tiny, borrowed office in a rectory of my home town of Port Chester, N.Y. I had no staff and I didn’t even know how to turn on the computer. I sat at the desk and said to the Lord, “Now, we begin.” It was my first day as the leader of a two-year-old organization known as Priests for Life. The founders of the organization gave me their mailing list and during a formal ceremony at the cathedral in San Francisco in October 1993, they transferred the bank account to me –…

CBCP STATEMENT ON THE DIVORCE BILL

Mar 14, 2018

The fact that we’re one of the last few countries without a divorce law until now speaks volumes about us as a nation. No doubt, those who associate divorce with being progressive would laud our legislators who are currently raring to pass a divorce bill in Congress. With due respect to them, we beg them to make room for more reasoned debates on the issue. Since they act as representatives of the people who elected them in office, we humbly suggest that they submit their personal opinions to a further consultation with their constituents. Perhaps they can also consult experts…
