Pro-Life Holds Art Exhibit

Pro-Life Philippines is holding an Art Exhibit this January 7, 2015 in order to start the year with culture and class. Entitled “Pro-Life is Pro-Art” and curated by Joseph Renta , the exhibit shows not only the artistic but also the pro-life side of our Pinoy artists.

“I think it’s about time to have an exhibit like this. Art represents what is beautiful and what is good in our lives, and there is no greater beauty than the sacredness of life and the bond between families. Our artists have given us true masterpieces which capture the mystery and essence of life.” Mr. Renta said.

Lorna Melegrito, executive director of Pro-Life Philippines, was ecstatic because of the line-up of artists who contributed to the exhibit. “We’ve got the big time artists like Joe Datuin who is famous for his metal sculptures. He will be holding an exhibit in New York next month. We also have the famous Luisito Ac-Ac from Paete, Laguna, and we all know Paete’s rich legacy of artistry. Robert Alejandro is also among the artists who contributed, and some people don’t know yet but his parents are the owners of Papelmelroti – and the RO comes from his name.”

“Eric Cachero is an artist who has won both local and international acclaim; Paul Balan is also from Paete and I heard that art really runs in his veins, as he is a descendant of Pablo Bague, one of Paete’s master sculptors. Eduardo Castrillo was really well known in the 60s and 70s as “avant garde”,  when he was the  forerunner in all-metal (bronze and brass) sculpture mixed with non-traditional media. His nephew, Sandro Castrillo, is also a renowned scuplture in his own right, and he has contributed his opus too.” Melegrito added.

“We have sought to bring together the masterful strokes and works of art of these gifted and seasoned artists because there is no art when there’s no life, to begin with, and art is a reflection of our lives, of our very selves. I hope everyone can come to our exhibit and purchase some of these masterpieces in order to help out Pro-Life Philippines continue doing the work started by the late Sr. Pilar Verzosa.” Melegrito said.

The other artists who have signed up for this exhibit are:  Ramon Orlina, winner of the ASEAN award in the field of Visual arts, and was awarded one of the Ten Outstanding Filipinos (TOFIL) award last 2006; Fidel Sarmiento, another multi-awarded artist and president of Isang Samahang Makasining and was president of Art Associations of the Philippines for three terms; Fernando Sena, dubbed the “Father of Art Workshops”; and Jose Vistan, who hails from Hagonoy, Bulacan.

The exhibit opens this January 7, Wednesday at 10 AM. See you there!
