Pro-Lifers Run and Bike for a Pro-Life Nation

“We shall do this every year!”

These were the words of Willy Arcilla, Pro-Life Philippines Vice President and overall in-charge of the “Run, Bike, Live for a Pro-life Nation” event held last December 8 at the SM Marikina grounds.

More than 600 men, women, and children braved the cold December morning and assembled at dawn at SM Marikina in order to participate in the first ever running and fun run event organized by Pro-Life Philippines, in partnership with Eventologists, inc. They came from all walks of life. Some were professionals, doctors, nurses, professors, teachers, and students. Some came alone, some came with their friends and companions. But many came along with their families, thus the event was also a way to strengthen the bonds of the family.

It was heartwarming to see the youngest participant – a seven year old boy who came with his small bike along with his parents. His parents, who was mighty proud of their child, said that it was not the first race he was participating in, and in fact has joined several other races before joining the “Run Bike Live” event of Pro-Life Philippines.

“I am used to running longer and farther, but I don’t mind this distance,” said Dr. Abraham Campo Cruz of the 3k and 5k running limits. He added that he also had an appointment later that morning, making the running “just right” for that day. “I am a pro-life doctor and I wanted to come out here and support Pro-life and all its endeavors.”

Michelle de Vera is a nurse who was vacationing here from the UK. She heard about the event and decided that she will join. “I was listening to Radio Veritas a few nights ago and I heard all about the event. I only have two weeks of vacation but I want to spend some time here in this event where I know I can help out. I am not even sure if I can finish 3k, but I will try!”

For Tin Sison, member of the pro-life group Filipinos for Life (F4L), she came along with the other members of F4L not to run or bike, but to be there  and give their donations. “I am out of shape, and I know that the race must be the perfect time to exercise, but I feel I am not yet ready for the race.” Sison said. “But what’s more important is that F4L and I show our support by being here and giving our donations, which will be used for a good cause.”

Sison was referring to the fact that part of the proceeds will be used in order to help out the orphaned victims of the recent super typhoon Yolanda. Currently, Pro-Life Philippines is working with DSWD and other groups and agencies to seek out and give shelter to these little children whose parents have perished in the storm.

Willy Arcilla told the staff of FYI that he wanted this to be a yearly event. “If the US has a ‘March for Life’ and a ‘Walk for Life’, I do not see why we should not do it here. Those events started out small, but attendance grew bigger every year. Hopefully, the same thing happens here in our country. This event is a fantastic way of promoting not only the pro-life cause but a healthy lifestyle, and we all know that being healthy goes hand in hand with being pro-life.”

“In the past we had rallies and pickets, which all served their cause. This time we have this chance to promote the advocacy in a very positive way. I am thankful to one and all for their support” Arcilla added.
