A Month to Remember

july

This month has seen us pro-lifers trooping to Padre Faura for the Supreme Court’s Oral Arguments on the RH law. We started off with a festive celebration and a mass to pray for our lawyers in the morning of July 9. During the oral arguments that day, Atty. Noche was grilled by the judges on the truth about the beginning of life, and how this is related to the constitution. As expected, the RH side went to the media to say that they really do not know when life begins, a typical ploy to deny the abortifacient effect contraceptive pills and IUDs.

Oral arguments resume on July 23, with Atty. Liban closing our end of the arguments, and the pro RH side giving their side of the argument. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has decided to indefinitely extend the Status Quo Ante given to the RH law, meaning that the law cannot be implemented, until further notice.

Clamor against My Husband’s Lover

Meanwhile, Courage Philippines’ president and Pro-life Philippines board member Rollie delos Reyes have been battling it out in Facebook with the producers and makers of the gay-themed show, My Husband’s Lover. Rollie has written the MTRCB a letter of complaint regarding the show. Here are some excerpts of his letter.

Dear MTRCB Board,

I am a concerned citizen, and I would like to write about my disturbed spirit over GMA7’s television show “My Husband’s Lover” being aired every night as part of their Telebabad series of soap operas.

I am concerned that this show is guided by the gay agenda that deems to desensitize our viewing public with the following ideas about homosexuality:

* Homosexuality is a gift of nature.

* Homosexual behavior cannot be controlled.

* Homosexuals are preoccupied seeking romantic sexual relationships with the same-sex.

* The Church is homophobic and propagate a culture of hate against homosexual persons.

* Homosexuals who are accepted for what they are AND for what they do live happy lives.

* Once a homosexual, always a homosexual.

I am concerned because I have been engaging in dialogue with the writers of this show on their facebook account, but it seems that they are adamant in presenting their own beliefs about family life and individual human rights (gay rights). With this, it is most likely that they will transmit their own beliefs and values through this show upon our innocently watching viewing public.

I have reminded them of their responsibility as media persons to inculcate authentic Filipino values to our public, but they just scoffed at me and attacked me personally.

I would like to ask your good office to put this show under strict monitoring, for though this show is rated Strict Parental Guidance, we are after the fair treatment of this show on such a sensitive topic such as homosexuality.

Homosexual persons should be treated with respect and compassion, but the promotion of the homosexual lifestyle (having sex with persons of the same sex) as a good thing is a disservice to the general viewing public. Please note that I have viewed the latest data from DOH (March 2013) on HIV cases and homosexual acts is listed as the number one factor of transmitting this disease. This fact along with my own (and others like me) personal journey out of homosexuality begs to disagree.

We owe it to our people to show programs that will lead them to a better understanding of reality, but still inculcating authentic Filipino values about family and marriage.

I hope that my request of strict monitoring of this show would be considered.

Thank you so much and God bless you!

Rolando C. delos Reyes II

Let us continue to pray for Rollie and support him in his efforts to have the show cancelled and to compel our networks to come up with quality shows that will promote positive family values.

Hundreds of Families Respond to Call to Adopt Baby with Down Syndrome slated for Abortion

For some good news: An unborn baby with Down syndrome slated for abortion may yet live, thanks to the effort of a Catholic priest who reached out to the baby’s parents with a desperate last-minute offer.

Deliver the baby, Father Thomas Vander Woude told the young couple, and he would find an adoptive family.

The couple gave the priest only one day to act, since the baby’s mother was in her sixth month of pregnancy and reportedly lives in a state where abortion past 24 weeks is prohibited.

What happened next in a culture that aborts as many as 90 percent of babies with Down syndrome can only be described as an astounding outpouring of love and compassion.

Father Vander Woude sent out an urgent plea through his parish’s Facebook page early Monday morning.

“There is a couple in another state who have contacted an adoption agency looking for a family to adopt their Down Syndrome unborn baby. If a couple has not been found by today they plan to abort the baby. If you are interested in adopting this baby please contact Fr. VW IMMEDIATELY,” read the post from Holy Trinity Catholic Church inGainesville,Virginia.

“We are asking all to pray for this baby and the wisdom that this couple realize the importance of human life and do not abort this beautiful gift from God.”

The plea lit up social media, spreading far and wide.ChristendomCollegein Front Royal, Virginia, where Fr. Vander Woude himself went to college, forwarded the plea to its faith-filled alumni.

Parish staff arriving for work that morning were flabbergasted by the immediate response.

“When we got in and opened up around 9:30, it was nearly nonstop. All day long, we were receiving phone calls from people who wanted to adopt the baby,” church staff member Martha Drennan toldthe Washington Times. “Father Vander Woude has gotten over 900 emails in regard to the baby.”
