SC reschedules deliberation on RH law petitions

    By Tetch Torres , INQUIRER.net

MANILA, Philippines—The Supreme Court has rescheduled the deliberation of its discussion on the petition questioning the constitutionality of the Reproductive Health Law.

The petition filed by couple James and Lovely Imbong in behalf of their minor children has been discussed during Tuesday’s en banc (full court) session but the justice who has been assigned to pen the decision of the case sought more time to study the petition.

Associate Justice Jose Catral Mendoza has been assigned via raffle of cases to handle the decision writing of the case.

Late December last year, Malacañang signed the controversial bill into law after a heated debate in Congress.

The petitioners said the case “will present the illegality of the Act as it mocks the nation’s Filipino culture—noble and lofty in its values and holdings on life, motherhood and family life—now the fragile lifeblood of a treasured culture that today stands solitary but proud in contrast to other nations.”

“The RH petition will be taken up again in the future session,” high court spokesman Gleo Guerra said.
