Live Pure – The Way God Wants You To Live Your Life

More than 5,000 students from all over Luzon flocked to the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig to join the first ever Live Pure Conference sponsored by the CFC-FFL. The speakers delved into  various topics concerning teens and young people, like authentic freedom, true love, and total happiness. The young people who attended this seminar, with some coming as far as Isabela, have taken into their hearts the meaning and the value of the talks. The response from the youth was also overwhelming, and as a result of the conference they promised to live a life of chastity and purity.

This is the kind of youth that we need. The kind of young people who grow up with virtue, self-control and sacrifice as their guide. These young servants of God, however, need to convey the message that it is possible to be young and to be chaste, and that it is okay to resist peer and societal pressure that pushes them more and more towards a lifestyle that is immoral.

There has never been a society that portrays so much nudity and violent dialgoue in movies and TV shows until ours. Unfortunately, many of these shows are also watched by the young. Impressionable as their minds are, they think that these are the norms to be followed. How many young people have you encountered in the malls and in the streets dressed up like gangster thugs? They think that it is okay and actually normal that people dress up this way.

Young people are willing to learn, and this is why the 1st Live Pure Conference was a resounding success – because those present learned that it is possible to be happy and to live in chastity. That true freedom comes from doing what is good and what is just.

On the other hand, you have people who call themselves “liberated.” They are the exact opposites of what we want our youth to become. They live lives of sexual promiscuity and without any consideration to morality or moral law. They have pushed away God from their lives and in turn have been away from God’s grace. It is necessary to ask though: is doing what one wants to do being “liberated?” Is there true freedom in living in sin?

Consider this statistic: Dramatic rise in premarital sex because of contraception: from 6% in 1900 to 75% of women today!

Because contraception distorts the true meaning and value of the marital act, we have 3 out of 4 women who have given themselves even before marriage. And because contraception claims to guarantee that it safeguards against pregnancy, more people have been brazen enough to have premarital sex.

Therefore, rises in STD and pregnancy cases were inevitable. Women are sought after their bodies and not their hearts and their exploitation have been the result of this fake liberation. And because they demanded for sex without consequences, with a little push from feminist ideologies, women now claim that their bodies are their own and therefore abortion is no longer murder; it is a choice. All of these just because of thinking that a piece of latex rubber is harmless; everybody does it anyway.

This is the kind of world that our young are exposed to. For the most part, we are also at fault for we have been too passive about the growing problem, years and decades before all of this happened. These problems didn’t just fall into our laps one day. These were problems that we turned a blind eye on years ago. We all knew someone who was doing it. We all knew some couple who were promiscuous; we all knew a guy or two to be looking for sexual contact night in and night out. We all knew someone who was co-habiting with his or her partner without getting married.

Did we do anything about it?

Now that the problem is upon us, the question now is: are we educating our young people today so that they will be the kind of pure, God-fearing Catholic citizens that we would like them to be? As parents, are we fulfilling our role of being the primary educators of our children?

Cheers to CFC-FFL for their efforts to educate and evangelize the youth. Let us all do our part in bringing back our values to our families.
