Spreading the Good News of Human Sexuality and Fertility

For you created my inmost being; you knit me in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” Psalm 139: 13-14

Scripture reminds us that human life has eternal worth. And the value of life is a truth that all Christians should passionately defend.

For many decades, biology and medical textbooks defined that a new human life begins at the moment of fertilization (conception). This is what we have accepted since we learned it in our science class in Grade Five. However, these past few years, some people claim that life begins only at the implantation of fertilized egg in the woman’s uterine lining that is five to seven days after fertilization.

Why the change? Obviously to rationalize the use of contraceptives and abortion pills. The low dose contraceptives pills marketed today permit ovulation to occur in some instances , and this is even the case with progesterone-only pills and the injectable (Depo-Provera). These do not always stop fertilization of an egg by the sperm. This means therefore that occasionally, an ovum will be fertilized and that when it reaches the uterus, it will be unable to implant because of the adverse effects of the pill chemicals on the endometrium (bloody lining of the uterus). The same happens with the use of the IUD (intrauterine devise). Stopping the development of fertilized egg at any stage is abortion.

But since abortion is illegal in the Philippines and since the population control people know that people in this majority Catholic country will object to abortion, they have redefined the beginning of human life to implantation instead of fertilization.

This then is the struggle we are faced with when we lobby in congress to stop the passage of the RH Bill  or the “Responsible Parenthood and Population Management Act”.

The bill insists on intensifying the promotion and use of the pill, the injectibles and the IUD for birth control.

While many Filipinos may object to abortion, there are many more who think that the use of contraceptives does not go against their religion and their conscience. They cannot understand why the Catholic Church and pro-lifers reject artificial contraception could be because they do not see the scientific fact that those contraceptives are actually abortifacients.

As we conduct information and education programs on the truth behind the myth of overpopulation the people, especially the women, speak out about the side-effects and pains they have been harboring for many years with the use of artificial family planning methods. They express disgust at how they have been fooled into accepting those methods without proper information on natural family planning which could have been their choice.

This is the call for all pro-lifers to invest in spreading the good news of human sexuality and fertility as God has planned from the beginning of time. Let us not allow more lives to be destroyed, hurt and confused. In whatever way you can share this information, go out now and do it to a member of your family, to a neighbor, an officemate, or another member of your church or your students.

Pro-life Resource Center has many materials you can avail of for your personal education and for distribution to those you will approach. Call us at 733-7027 or email us at The life you save today may save your life tomorrow.
