Journeying with the Youth of Ilocos Sur

Back in August, Filipinos for Life Speakers and Trainers were invited by the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia in Vigan to do a series of talks for their youth. Last Saturday, F4L members Rommel Lopez, Anna Cosio, and Juan Carlo Vitasa and I went on the long trip to Vigan to respond to the call of evangelization. I was asked by Pro-Life Philippines to document our journey there in the north. Day 1: The Arrival We arrived in Candon City, Ilocos Sur around 4 AM, way earlier than we were expected to arrive by our host, Fr. Willie Jones Ducusin. Fr….

Time for Rebuilding

Stories and rumors from the rubble and devastation in Bohol: If this was true, then not only has the President categorically rejected the Church, but as a president he showed poor understanding of the concept of Separation of Church and State. What is the Separation of Church and State all about? We doubt it is how the president – and how so many among us – understand it. It was never meant to mean that the Church should not meddle in state matters, and vice versa. It was meant so that there should be not one single religion will…

Love, Through the Eyes of the Aeta

aeta 2

By: Anthony James U. Perez Around 7 years ago I was given the opportunity to preach the retreat of around 200 senior citizens. I do not remember much about the retreat, except what happened after my talk. The incident happened during lunch break. For some reason, an elderly Aeta couple got separated from each other at the dining hall, and they ended up being seated apart from each other. Lunch was served, and all 200 elderly people began to eat. Except for the Aeta couple. I…

Joy in this vale of tears

Rev. Fr. Roy Cimagala Candidly Speaking   WE have to learn how to find joy in this world that is often called a vale of tears. We cannot escape from disappointments and frustrations in this world, to say the least. And we even have good basis to expect great suffering and painful contradictions. Finding joy is a matter of choice. If we want it, we will have it. If we look for it, we surely can find it. What we have to avoid is the attitude…

A pro-life priest’s view of Pope Francis’ call to pray and fast for peace

BY FR. SHENAN BOQUET Fri Sep 06, 2013 13:10 EST Tags: Pope Francis, Syria ROME, September 6, 2013 (HLI Worldwatch) – Pope Francis has called upon Catholics and people of all faiths to join him tomorrow, September 7, in prayer and fasting for peace in Syria. All men and women of good will are bound by the task of pursuing peace. I make a forceful and urgent call to the entire Catholic Church, and also to every Christian of other confessions, as well as to followers of every religion and to…

I Walked Away from One Man’s Promise of Prosperity – And Never Been Happier!

By Anthony James U. Perez Just before I wrote this I was browsing through the various viands at my favorite turo-turo near the Pro-Life office in Legarda. Hard to imagine that a few days ago I was casually dining at a posh Spanish restaurant, taking my pick among the different tapas, munching on croquetas and pollo and several other food items whose names I cannot remember. I was smug that I and my team of web developers, graphic designers, and writers will be working for a…

Without Religious Morals and Values, Abortion on Demand Would Flourish

by Murray Vasser | Washington, DC | | 8/26/13 5:23 PM   Washington, DC (LiveActionNews) –  In The Coming of the Third Reich, hailed by the Atlantic Monthly as “the definitive English-language account,” Cambridge historian Richard Evans outlines the various philosophies which undergirded the Nazi regime. Among many others, he points to thinkers such as Ernst Haeckel, who openly advocated killing the mentally ill, and Alfred Ploetz, who believed a panel of doctors should attend every birth to determine if the baby was fit to live.  As Evans proceeds to explain, Such a technocratically rationalistic approach to population management presupposed an entirely secular, instrumental…

Marriage Equality, Racial Equality, Gender Equality: What About Equality for the Unborn?

by Barry Garrett | Washington, DC | | 8/29/13 11:53 AM   Marriage equality. Racial equality. Gender equality. Everywhere there’s equality. It’s hard to go about even one day in life without hearing a story in which one member (or class) of our species is accusing another member (or class) of our species of unequal treatment. So allow me to throw my hat in the ring and argue for existential equality. By existential equality, I don’t mean to imply anything spiritual as the term seems to imply in a quick Google search. I simply mean to state my belief…

Life After RH

after life

Today is the last day of the oral arguments of the RH law in the Supreme Court. The die has been cast, and the justices have heard both sides. A few weeks to a few months from now we will face the decision of the judges whether to uphold the law or strike it down in its totality or just some provisions. We have always believed that with or without the RH law, the Culture of Death will still be upon us, preying on our youth and their impressionable minds, as well as infusing ideologies and philosphies that are very…

The Pork Barrel Scam has certainly enraged this nation and the anger will soon spill over to the streets. A few days from now simultaneous rallies will be held against the greed and corruption perpetuated by the Pork Barrel system, held fortuitously on the day called Araw ng mga Bayani. The day of heroes. On that day, we take to the streets, and protest the massive corruption happening in our country – an injustice so great that it has left the poor poorer and the rich richer. Some were afraid that the recent habagat rains and the massive flooding might…
