RH and Freedom of Expression

The Pasay RTC denied the request for the TRO of the 7th APCRHS held at the PICC last January 21,23, 2014, citing ‘freedom of expression’ as the primary reason for the denial. What the organizers and the RH camp cannot deny, however, was the fact that the conference, dubbed by pro-lifers as the “abortion conference”, really did tackle abortion. From the website of Senator Pia Cayetano: “Petitioners claimed that the APCRSHR is an ‘abortionists’ conference.’ But discussions on reproductive health will necessarily include abortion, and as the counsel for the conference organizers correctly pointed out, no abortion is taking place at…

The Conference of Death

A week from now, the Philippine NGO Council on Population Health and Welfare (PNGOC) will host the 7th Asia Pacific Conference on Reproductive and Sexual Health and Rights (APCRSHR). Among those who will be present in this conference are: International Planned Parenthood, the world’s leading abortion provider; Women’s Global Network for Reproductive Rights, a group that helps legalize abortion in countries that do not have them yet; UNFPA, the ones who helped China craft its one-child policy; Catholics for Choice, a pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage group based in the US; Marie Stopes International, another pro-abortion group ; and Asia Safe Abortion…

Blog entry from The Quirky Catholic: Some Questions I Wish RH Fans Could Answer

Barely a few days into the new year and the Pro RH camp has fired the first shot into this battle for lives. This time it came in the form of a simple PR from the Population Commission, which said that we will hit 100 million this year. Once again, mainstream and social media are abuzz with people clamoring that we need the RH law, which is now in Supreme Court Limbo following the SC’s status quo ante order. This is by no means an accident or a…

Who’s Scared of 100 Million?

The Philippine Star headlined the other day the fact that we are going to hit a whopping 100 million this year. That’s great news, but brace yourselves for naysayers and prophets of doom, AKA RH law fanatics and population control freaks. Be prepared for people who will comment “kaya nga dapat may RH law” or “ipasa na yan!” or “kasalanan yan ng Simbahan” very carelessly and without much thought. Today, we come up with the top 5 reasons why 100 million isn’t a bad, bad thing…

An Open Letter from Pro-Life Philippines

The events of the past few months have left no shadow of doubt that there is indeed something critically wrong with the leadership of this country. Our nation has been devastated by two terrible natural disasters weeks apart. While we have no clear numbers on the number of deaths, the destruction caused by both the earthquake in Bohol and especially Typhoon Yolanda has been total. We were saddened by your apparent refusal to use government funds to rebuild the churches in Bohol; after all, these are…

Journeying with the Youth of Ilocos Sur

Back in August, Filipinos for Life Speakers and Trainers were invited by the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia in Vigan to do a series of talks for their youth. Last Saturday, F4L members Rommel Lopez, Anna Cosio, and Juan Carlo Vitasa and I went on the long trip to Vigan to respond to the call of evangelization. I was asked by Pro-Life Philippines to document our journey there in the north. Day 1: The Arrival We arrived in Candon City, Ilocos Sur around 4 AM, way earlier than we were expected to arrive by our host, Fr. Willie Jones Ducusin. Fr….

Time for Rebuilding

Stories and rumors from the rubble and devastation in Bohol: If this was true, then not only has the President categorically rejected the Church, but as a president he showed poor understanding of the concept of Separation of Church and State. What is the Separation of Church and State all about? We doubt it is how the president – and how so many among us – understand it. It was never meant to mean that the Church should not meddle in state matters, and vice versa. It was meant so that there should be not one single religion will…

Love, Through the Eyes of the Aeta

aeta 2

By: Anthony James U. Perez Around 7 years ago I was given the opportunity to preach the retreat of around 200 senior citizens. I do not remember much about the retreat, except what happened after my talk. The incident happened during lunch break. For some reason, an elderly Aeta couple got separated from each other at the dining hall, and they ended up being seated apart from each other. Lunch was served, and all 200 elderly people began to eat. Except for the Aeta couple. I…

Joy in this vale of tears

Rev. Fr. Roy Cimagala Candidly Speaking   WE have to learn how to find joy in this world that is often called a vale of tears. We cannot escape from disappointments and frustrations in this world, to say the least. And we even have good basis to expect great suffering and painful contradictions. Finding joy is a matter of choice. If we want it, we will have it. If we look for it, we surely can find it. What we have to avoid is the attitude…

A pro-life priest’s view of Pope Francis’ call to pray and fast for peace

SHENAN BOQUET Fri Sep 06, 2013 13:10 EST Tags: Pope Francis, Syria ROME, September 6, 2013 (HLI Worldwatch) – Pope Francis has called upon Catholics and people of all faiths to join him tomorrow, September 7, in prayer and fasting for peace in Syria. All men and women of good will are bound by the task of pursuing peace. I make a forceful and urgent call to the entire Catholic Church, and also to every Christian of other confessions, as well as to followers of every religion and to…
