Fight fake news, bishops urge Catholics

As fake news takes over social media feeds, the country’s Catholic bishops on Wednesday called on the faithful to fight spread of false information and online deception. For the first time, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines issued a pastoral exhortation against fake news which is “a sin against charity” because it leads the people to wrong decisions. “Our Catholic faith obliges us to refrain from patronizing, popularizing and supporting identified sources of ‘alternative facts’ or ‘fake news’,” the bishops said. “Refuse to be themselves purveyors of fake news and to desist from disseminating this whether on social media…

Marawi Bishop Edwin de la Peña said he received a call last night from one of the militants, who introduced himself as “a member of the ISIS”, and demanded for a “unilateral ceasefire”. “They want a ceasefire and for the military to give them access out of Marawi. Otherwise, they will kill the hostages,” Marawi Bishop Edwin de la Peña said. The prelate said the call was made shortly before 8pm on…

Raul Nidoy, a Doctor in Theology and Director for Formation of the Parents for Education Foundation (PAREF)

(Raul Nidoy, a Doctor in Theology and Director for Formation of the Parents for Education Foundation (PAREF) By: (Fr. Mickey Cardenas / CBCP News) PASIG City, Jan. 15, 2016 – Amidst the alarm and anger of Reproductive Health (RH) Law advocates over the scrapping from the 2016 budget of a Php 1-billion allocation for family planning commodities, an educator renewed the warning on the adverse effects of contraceptives not only on people’s physical health but on the very integrity of society’s most basic unit. “Why can contraception destroy the family? Remembering Sr. Mary Pilar Verzosa, RGS on her 3rd Death Anniversary

02

Sept. 9, 2015, Pro-Life Philippines commemorates the 3rd death anniversary  of our founder, Sr. Pilar Verzosa, RGS. Three years after Sr. Pilar’s death and we still feel the loss of such a great person.  We still miss her dearly, as no one can ever take her place in our hearts. Sr. Pilar was loved by many because she sincerely loved life. People did not hesitate in helping her because she bannered the Pro-life advocacy everywhere she went, and did so with the energy of a hundred men. She loved life, and exuded life. She was there to seek women and…

Tagle blasts abortion on global day of prayer for creation

MANILA, Sept. 1, 2015 – Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle slammed abortion as an attack on human dignity— an important facet in respect for creation. The Manila archbishop lamented attacks on human life which, he said, mirror today’s materialistic mentality. “If you are useful anymore, you are dropped. It is not a contemplation of human dignity,” Tagle said. Strong message “Even people are measured by profitability that is why children being conceived in the womb can be aborted,” he said. Tagle made the strong anti-abortion message during a Mass on Tuesday for the first World Day of Prayer for the Care of…

FILIPINOS FOR LIFE OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON THE SCOTUS’ DECISION ON SAME SEX “MARRIAGE”

LIFE1

Posted on 7 July 2015 by Truthsayer We, the members of Filipinos for Life, express our dismay at the recent decision of the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) to legalize same-sex “marriage”. We believe that SCOTUS acted outside the bounds of its authority in redefining the meaning of an institution which has been understood, from the beginning of human civilization, as the union between a man and a woman. This lamentable decision, which has no historical, traditional, cultural, or natural foundations, is based on an irrational sentimentality and a misplaced sense of compassion that fails to consider the future of the…

Filial Appeal to His Holiness Pope Francis On the future of the family

Divorce and the Progressive ambition to destroy the family

banner2

Posted on May 14, 2015 10:52:00 PM The thing is: many (but definitely not all) of those advocating for divorce want the traditional family structure of biologically related father, mother, and child be rid of. And I’ve received comments related to my previous article “Divorce is just a bad idea” (08 May issue) where people implicitly declared they are not against the idea of traditional marriage being done away with. Which isn’t surprising when one remembers that “no-fault” divorce actually originated from that long-held communist objective to…

DIVORCE … Why Not?

opinions-460x360

by: Rosie Luistro  Founding President (currently in the Board of Advisers) Alliance for the Family Foundation Philippines, Inc. (ALFI) May 2015 1. Divorce in the Philippines is not legal but it looks like there are more couples getting an annulment. Isn’t this enough reason to legalize divorce? The increasing numbers may be due to a greater awareness of this procedure than before. We get to know more about annulments or separations today especially if they involve movie or society personalities. The media loves to elaborate on the details…
