Everyone must respect the basic human rights of all human beings, pope says

VATICAN— The fundamental rights of all human beings, especially the most vulnerable, must be respected and protected in every situation, Pope Francis said, marking Human Rights Day, Dec. 10. “While a part of humanity lives in opulence, another part sees their dignity denied, ignored or infringed upon and their fundamental rights ignored or violated,” he said. Such a contradiction leads one to ask “whether the equal dignity of all human beings — solemnly proclaimed 70 years ago — is truly recognized, respected, protected and promoted in every circumstance,” he said in a written message. Parents of ‘miracle’ micro-preemie thankful to bring home healthy girl

Pearly Jo (“PJ”) was born at 23 weeks gestation, weighing just 1.1 pounds, and was considered a “micro-preemie,” and is the youngest baby to survive at Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in McKinney, Texas. But she proved she was a fighter when she let out “three huge cries” as she was born, according to her mother, shocking everyone in the delivery room. Born on Independence Day 2018, the tiny girl named after her great-grandmother amazingly never got an infection and never had to have surgery, though she did experience a brain bleed, something not uncommon among extremely premature babies. Brazil elects pro-life president, despite pressure to legalize abortion

On Sunday, Jair Bolsonaro won the presidential election in Brazil. His victory, with 55% of the vote, is significant because he is conservative and, more importantly, pro-life. For the past four presidential elections, Brazil has chosen left-leaning candidates. Bolsonaro represents a marked contrast, and his election has been described as the most dramatic political change since democracy was restored to Brazil more than three decades ago. Under current law, Brazil is a strongly pro-life country. All abortions are banned except in cases of rape, when the mother’s health is at risk, or when a baby’s brain is severely deformed. International…

Nurse Admits “the Purpose for” Prenatal Screening is to Abort Babies With Down Syndrome

In news that shows how prevalent discriminatory attitudes towards babies with Down’s syndrome still are within the medical profession, a mother has spoken out about her horror at being told the point of prenatal screening was to abort babies with the condition. “It was horrible” Leah, a mother of two who did not give the BBC her full name, recently went for a dating scan and asked for the screening so she could be prepared if her baby had the condition, which it did not. She has a sister with Down’s syndrome, and told the midwife that she would not…
