The Easiest Way to Stop Human Trafficking? Stop Watching Porn

By Megan Steyskal-Rondeau The six degrees between viewing pornography and creating victims to feed into the world of human trafficking is startling to say the least. How can a harmless internet search lead to an extreme violation such as sex slaves? Yes, sex slaves; because if we are going to be speaking to our youth then we should call a spade a spade. Supply and demand is basic economics: If we didn’t have the huge demand for (more extreme and degrading) porn, we wouldn’t need the…

Population control won’t solve climate change, Caritas official says

VATICAN CITY, May 16, 2015–Controlling populations is not the answer in fighting poverty and protecting the environment, says a leading official for the Catholic aid federation, Caritas Internationalis. “We do not see that population control, the way it is being thought by many, is the right way to go forward,” Caritas secretary general Michel Roy said in an interview with CNA. The question of sustaining the planet is not approached “by suppressing people,” he said. Roy has been in Rome for Caritas International’s 20th general assembly which has been running from May 12-17 on the theme: “One human family, care…

The Saving of Babies and the Making of Saints

Fr. Frank Pavone National Director, Priests for Life According to the norms currently in place in the Catholic Church, before someone is declared a saint, it is usually necessary to have two scientifically documented miracles obtained through the intercession of the person to be canonized. The miracles must be physical healings brought about by Divine intervention, must be beyond the ability of natural science to explain, and must be permanent. Recently, Pope Paul VI was “beatified,” which is the step before canonization, and one miracle is required for that. Another well-known person whose cause for sainthood has been introduced and…

BREAKING: House votes to ban abortions in the U.S. after five months

5:30 PM, MAY 13, 2015  BECKY YEH On the anniversary of the conviction of Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell, the U.S. House voted in favor of banning abortions across the country after five months. The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act passed the House on a 242 to 184 vote, and now heads to the Senate. Lawmakers wrangled with the measure, also known as H.R. 36, in January, which sabotaged a highly anticipated vote on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade; however, the measure was reintroduced for another vote on the anniversary of Gosnell’s conviction. The law would effectively ban abortions in the U.S. after 20 weeks— when…

    Irish Parliament Rejects Pro-Abortion Bill

Ireland’s parliament has soundly rejected a bill that would have denied legal protections to unborn babies by Paul Bois  •   May 14, 2015 DUBLIN, May 14, 2015 (ChurchMilitant.com) – Ireland’s parliament has soundly rejected a bill that would have denied legal protections to unborn babies. Losing by a vote of 74 to 23, the bill, led by Deputy Ruth Coppinger, sought to repeal the 8th Amendment to the Irish Constitution, which effectively banned abortion throughout all of Ireland in 1983. The amendment suffered a major blow in 2013 when Parliament passed a bill allowing abortion for the first time in Ireland at any…
